Welcome to day 3 of the 2025 One With Them Challenge.
In Eritrea, an estimated 1,000 Christians are imprisoned for their faith without trial or charges. Some are locked inside metal shipping containers. These cells are scorching hot during the day and freezing at night. The air is thick with suffering. And yet, in the darkest places, worship rises.
Helen Berhane knows this firsthand. She spent over two years in Eritrean prisons because of her faith. She was beaten, abused and still, she sang. In fact, she wrote worship songs while behind bars. Her voice became a weapon of resistance and a declaration of hope.
“I have a message for those of you who are Christians and live in the free world: Don’t take your freedom for granted. Use every opportunity you have to praise God every day.” – Helen Berhane
Her words echo the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16. Imprisoned, beaten, chained—they sang praises in the night.
If they could worship in captivity, so can we in freedom.
Today's Challenge
Today, as an act of solidarity with imprisoned believers in Eritrea, your challenge is simple: worship.
Take a moment to sing a song of praise. It could be a familiar hymn or a modern worship song. Sing it out loud. Let it rise from your heart like it did from the shipping container cells of Eritrea.
You might feel awkward at first but imagine the power of your worship joining with theirs around the world.
Pray
Would you take time today to pray for the 1,000+ Christians imprisoned in Eritrea? Pray that worship would continue to rise behind prison walls, that faith would not be silenced and that the presence of God would meet them in their suffering.
