Welcome to day 4 of the 2026 One With Them Challenge.
When Hea Woo was arrested in North Korea and sent to a labour camp, she felt God calling her to take a courageous step and start a church right there in the middle of the labour camp.
She began sharing her meagre rations with those who were sick or needed food and slowly others came to faith and a small church started to form.
Where does a church meet in a labour camp in the most dangerous country to live in as a Christian? There was only one place they could meet without being caught – the toilets.
These weren’t bathrooms, these were pit toilets that smelled so bad, the guards wouldn’t go in them. They would gather in the toilets and they would sing silently together so that they couldn’t be heard.
Even in the middle of a prison, God is working and God is worthy of our worship.
Today's Challenge
Today, as a reminder of the dangerous situations that our captive brothers and sisters find themselves in, we want you to worship God through song – but don’t make any noise!
Take a moment to silently sing a song of praise. You can mouth the words, hum it under your breath, but whatever you do, don’t be loud enough to be overheard.
You might feel awkward at first or want to vocalize because that’s what you’re used to, but today as you silently sing imagine the power of your worship joining with the worship of prisoners around the world today.
Pray
Take time today to pray for captive Christians who cannot openly worship God because their captors would punish them. Ask God to give them strength and courage to worship God in whatever way they can.
