Challenge Day 5: Blackout

Day 5 of the 2026 One With Them Challenge!

Welcome to day 5 of the 2026 One With Them Challenge.

Iran has been in the news a lot in 2026. The situation there has been chaotic to say the least. The war has only exacerbated the situation for Christians. Arresting Christians for holding Bible studies or sharing their faith is a common tactic. Other Christians are accused of acting “against national security” simply for being part of a church. Many are sent to the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, where abuse is common.

Simin Soheilinia fled to Canada after she was sentenced to 10 years for “leading an illegal house church.” But in September 2025, she decided to go back to Iran after the death of her father and a terminal illness diagnosis for her mother.

She was arrested and imprisoned upon her return. Her sentence was reduced to three years and six months and it was decided she could serve the remainder of her sentence outside of prison, with an electronic tag.

But then the war began and all contact with Simin was lost. With the extended internet blackout that only ended recently, her family has not heard from her.

When we talk about Christians held captive, it’s important to remember the families that are on the outside, missing their loved one and often without updates on their situation.

Today's Challenge

In solidarity with the family members of Christian imprisoned in Iran and around the world, today’s challenge is to fast.  When we fast, whether food, or something else of our choice, we give up something that we need and enjoy, so that we can draw closer to Jesus.

If you can fast a meal, we encourage you to do so. If you can’t fast a meal, pick something else that you’ll miss today.

As you feel hunger, let it remind you of the uncertainty that family members face. Let it draw you into prayer for both prisoners and their families.

Pray

Take time to pray for Iranian Christians who are imprisoned for their faith. Pray for strength, endurance, and the nearness of God in their isolation.
